Like her namesake, the Kit had beautiful lines and when we got her she was a little rugged (just like the Cape Cod sea in winter!) and lots of fun (just like Aunt Kit!) To add to it, the colour we found was an Oops colour - just sitting there - a gallon for $9.00 and it was the same colour as I remember the Cape Cod sea when I would visit in the summertime as a child.
The Kit was a little worse for wear (not so much like her namesake!) and needed a heavy duty amount of repair to her sides and her drawer slides. With a little elbow grease and a ton of sanding, this girl went from a wallflower, sitting under her umbrella, wearing a cover up and reading a book on the beach, to the girl of the hour, fun and smiling and flaunting her wonderful self!
She underwent a lot of sanding and a good cleaning, followed by three coats of primer and three coats of possibly the most awesome paint we've ever used! Finally, she went through another sanding, to distress her in the best possible way, like a piece of driftwood knocked by the waves. Her coat is soft and smooth and covered in two coats of wax to make her strong.
Her hardware came from another new piece we found on our adventures, and they fit her perfectly - the ideal mix of daintiness and strength. They were the crowning touch to this awesome little dresser.
This piece is a little smaller than most 6 drawer dressers, but would work wonderfully as a space saving addition to any bedroom or nursery!
