She started out with shiny black paint that really took away from her sweet lines, so with a new tool that Mr. Sweet Peep left out at the shop (an orbital sander!) we stripped her of all the camouflage that was hiding the beautiful solid wood beneath. Sanding with such a powerful tool left the shop smelling sweetly of pine wood - one of my favourite parts of this little hobby!
Next, we brought her home and coated her with three coats of primer, to cover what was left of her black coat. Then, we gave her four coats of our usual Opal white. Finally, we gave her a good sand and distressing. The best part? As we sanded her, the black began to show, leaving her top with subtle and beautiful striations.

Lastly, when we picked up the old girl, we were warned that the drawers hang when you open them too far, so we fixed the metal drawer slides, so they were sturdy once again, all except for one, whose slide was forgotten and lost sometime in her history. Instead of replacing it, we chalked it up to her age and thought it gave her a bit of character - that one drawer, that opens a little too far - lending a tiny scraping whisper to the ambiance of the room.
Her lines reminded us of the old dresser in a grandmother's house - you know the one, when you open the drawers, dust motes float gently in the rays of sunlight like little fairies and the sweet smell of your grandma's old perfume wafts out The one that reminds you of the days when you were a child, so excited to be sleeping over because she let you eat popcorn at midnight and chocolate cereal for breakfast.
The Yarina is a sweet dresser that could house clothing or linens, crafts or even be set up as an entertainment unit - a piece that would be perfect in any room of your home!
